Based in its theme of ‘Chinese wisdom in urban development��, the China Pavilion is designed to showcase an ‘Exploration of the Orient��. Taking an Eastern viewpoint and with its focus on exploration, the design will follow the traditional Chinese philosophy of ‘unification of man and heaven�� and pursue the ideal of ‘harmonious co-existence��. The pavilion will provide visitors with an experience of China’s efforts of urban development over the course of the last 30 years since its reform and opening-up. It will display the features, challenges and solutions of China’s urban development from the standpoint of culture and humanity, by both looking back at history and looking forward to the future. A visit to the China Pavilion is sure to inspire visitors with ‘Chinese wisdom in urban development��
Hong Kong Pavilion
The special administrative region will explore the theme “Hong Kong �� the Infinite City�� with a focus on its urban transport network, advanced scientific facilities, financial and trade systems, multinational culture and sustainable high-quality urban life. Hong Kong will also showcase its multifunctional smart card as an Urban Best Practice Area for the Expo.Its “Smart Card, Smart City, Smart Life�� will let visitors experience the life style that Hong Kong residents enjoy using smart cards for public transport, car parking, shopping and entertainment. The region will also demonstrate how it promotes the smart card to residents.
Macau Pavilion
The Macau pavilion will be covered by a double-layer glass membrane and fluorescent screens. Kinetic balloons will form the head and tail of the “rabbit.�� In Chinese mythology, the jade rabbit welcomes visitors to a magical fairyland.
Japan Pavilion
Japan’s exhibit will feature a theme on the harmony between the human heart and technology. The theme is an extension of the Expo 2005 theme “Nature’s Wisdom�� and also an interpretation of the “Better City, Better Life�� Shanghai Expo theme, the official added. Japan Pavilion has secured a 6,000-square-meter plot at the Expo site. The 24-meter-high pavilion is the largest the country has ever built for a World Expo. It is also one of the largest pavilions at Expo 2010. The pavilion will be divided into past, present and future exhibits. The country’s semi-circular pavilion will make efficient use of natural resources with solar energy collection batteries and a double-layer membrane that can filter sunshine to coincide with its interpretation of how technology can better our lives.
South Korea Pavilion
ROK writing is one of the greatest inventions of its people, so the country will highlight words at the Expo 2010. The country’s 2010 exhibit will feature a theme on “Friendly City, Colorful Life,�� echoing the Shanghai event theme �� “Better City, Better Life.�� It will also unveil plans for the Yeosu Expo 2012. Visitors will be greeted on the ground with a microscopic view of the capital city Seoul. The iconic buildings and mountains in the city will be shrunk 300 times. A performance stage and a waterfall will be built there as well. Visitors can watch traditional folk shows and a short film directed by the famous ROK director Kim Seong Soo. The main exhibition area on the second floor will be divided into four sections �� culture, technology, humanity and nature —where visitors will experience the current and future urban life of the country.
